One dead after double shooting early Sunday morning in Kokomo

KOKOMO — One person is dead after a double shooting early Sunday morning in Kokomo, according to police.

Cody Kuefner, 23, of Kokomo, died after they were shot around 4:45 a.m. near Fischer and North Washington streets, according to a press release from the Kokomo Police Department. A 34-year-old, of Kokomo, was also shot and was taken to St. Vincent in Kokomo. Their condition has not been released.

An argument between several people after a hit-and-run crash at a business in the 2000 block of North Market Street led to a 34-year-old, of Kokomo, shooting two people, according to release. They were arrested and preliminarily charged with voluntary manslaughter, reckless homicide, criminal recklessness, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a BAC of .15 or more.

Formal charges have not been filed, according to online court records.

The incident is still under investigation by the Kokomo Police Department and Howard County Coroner's Office. Anyone with information is asked to call KPD Det.
