INDIANAPOLIS -- A man was shot and killed inside a home Wednesday afternoon on Indianapolis' south side – marking Indianapolis' 148th murder of the year.

The shooting happened just before 1 p.m., in the 1400 block of S. Knox Street. The victim, later identified as Thomas Raymer, 55, was initially listed in critical condition. He later died from his injuries.

2017 is now one short of the homicide record of 149 murders set last year. In 2016, the 149th homicide didn't occur until Dec. 29. With 26 days left in the year, Indy could potentially see as many as 160 murders at its current pace.
