South Bend woman stopped going 101 mph, arrested on suspicion of OWI

GREENE COUNTY — A South Bend woman was arrested Saturday morning in Greene County on the suspicion of OWI after a state trooper caught her going more than 100 mph.

An Indiana State Police trooper stopped the 21-year-old woman on Interstate-69 near the 93.5 mile marker after the trooper caught the woman going 101 mph on his radar, according to a press release from ISP.

When the trooper was talking to the woman, he could smell alcohol coming from the woman, according to the release. The woman failed several field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol content of .18 percent.

The woman was arrested and charged on the suspicion of operating while intoxicated with a BAC of .15 percent or more, operating while intoxicated - endangering a person, operating while intoxicated, and reckless driving, according to the release.

The trooper was working, Project CARE (combined accident reduction effort, an extra patrol over Memorial Day weekend when he stopped the woman.
