BLOOMINGTON — Bloomington Police say four people were shot early Saturday morning.
Officers responded to the Kalao Nightclub off of Walnut Street around 1:10 a.m. and found three people shot outside. According to a news release, "multiple shots" had been fired inside the bar and all three victims had been shot in the lower-level rear bar area.
The three men, ages 26, 41 and 22, were taken to the hospital. Police say surveillance video shows the suspect and the 41-year-old victim in an altercation before the shooting.
"The suspect can then be seen producing a handgun and firing multiple times in the very crowded bar area," police wrote in a news release.
In an update Saturday night, police said the 22-year-old victim was out of the hospital and the other two victims were stable.
Police believe there was only one shooter inside the nightclub who ran out and left the scene after the shooting.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Detective Jeff Rodgers at (812)349-3318.
About 20 minutes after the Kalao shooting, officers found a 26-year-old man with a gunshot wound in a vehicle near the intersection of 6th Street and Lincoln Street. He was taken to the hospital, rushed into emergency surgery and is now in critical condition.
Officers believe the victim was shot near the alleyway between Kirkwood Avenue and 6th Street.
Investigators are looking for witnesses and attempting to review surveillance footage from nearby cameras.
Police do not know if the two shootings are connected and no arrests have been announced. Anyone with information about the second shooting is asked to contact Detective Jon Muscato at (812)349-3325.
IU Emergency Management sent a series of tweets beginning at 2:43 a.m. Saturday. Indiana University Police Division Chief Jill Lees tells WRTV they received a call from someone at Briscoe Residence Center about a vehicle they though might had had something to do with the shooting.
Officers got information on the vehicle's description and a license plate number from a security guard. Police found the vehicle, but the driver fled when an officer tried to stop it.
Lees says the vehicle crashed in a parking lot near Wells Library and three males ran from the scene. Two men were arrested and taken to the Monroe County Jail; both also had warrants out of Marion County.
WRTV does not name suspects unless formal charges are filed. Police are searching for the third suspect.
"After conferring with the Bloomington Police Department, at this time, this vehicle and the three male suspects do not appear to be related to the incident that took place in the city," Lees said in an email. "IU Notify alerts are sent to those who have subscribed and are posted on IU social media channels when an incident poses an immediate threat to the IU Bloomington campus."
