GARY — A trooper escaped serious injury Saturday morning after being struck by an alleged drunken driver while investigating another impaired driver in Gary.
Indiana State Police said the trooper was investigating another alleged drunken driver near 15th Avenue and Broadway when 36-year-old woman, of Hammond, struck a parked car then struck the trooper's car.
After striking the trooper, the woman then tried to speed towards the trooper, but was unable to because her car was wedged into the rear of trooper's car, according to the release.
Both alleged drunken drivers and the trooper were checked out by Gary EMS and were not transported to the hospital, according to the release.
State police say the driver who struck the trooper had a blood alcohol content of .13 percent. The legal limit in Indiana is .08 percent.
