Vigil raises awareness about 13-year-old's unsolved killing

Posted

LAWRENCE, Ind. -- A vigil to raise awareness about the unsolved killing of a 13-year-old took place Monday night in Lawrence.

Last month, somebody shot and killed 13-year-old Matthew McGee in a parking lot near Castleton Square Mall. Investigators have not been able to find a suspect.

Lawrence police and the Chaplain Unit from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department prayed in honor of McGee at Explorer Park near Belzer Middle School, where McGee was a student.

Police say they hope the vigil sends a strong message.

"When we have homicides and non-fatal shootings I would much rather be the community around those that's standing in front of you having these discussions and we support them," IMPD Chief Bryan Roach said. "I think that will happen and I think that sends a message to all those that are involved that it's not going to happen here."

If you have any information about McGee's killing, call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-8477.
