ZIONSVILLE, Ind. -- A man stole a Riley donation jar from a Zionsville gas station after the clerk refused to open the register, police said.

The robbery happened on Aug. 1 just before midnight, at the Speedway gas station at 1390 W. Oak Street in Zionsville.

A man walked into the store, pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded money from the register. The clerk told him he couldn't access it unless something was purchased.

The robber again demanded the clerk open the register, and the clerk again refused.

After the second refusal, the robber grabbed the donation jar meant for the Riley Hospital for Children and ran out of the store.

The clerk told police the man may have ran to the side of the building to get to a car. A silver car with a sunroof was seen circling the area prior to the robbery.
