MUNCIE, Ind. -- Muncie police are asking for the public's assistance in locating the driver who struck and killed a pedestrian Friday night.

Emergency responders were called around 11 p.m. to the area of the 100 block of South Morrison Road, near Colonial Crest Apartments, on the report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle. That pedestrian later died, according to police.

Sgt. Chris Kirby said they are looking for a smaller "boxy" SUV with damage on the right side that left the scene of the crash.

Kirby says both the vehicle and the pedestrian were traveling southbound on Morrison Road when the crash occurred.

The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.

Anyone with information on the incident or the location of the hit-and-run vehicle is asked to call emergency dispatchers at 765-747-4838 and ask to speak with Kirby.
