MUNCIE — A new book by two veteran reporters explores the unsolved 1985 murders of two teens at Westside Park in Muncie.

"The Westside Park Murders: Muncie's Most Notorious Cold Case" by Douglas Walker and Keith Roysdon, both veteran journalists in Muncie, tells "the complete and untold story" of the murders for the first time.

Kimberly Dowell and Ethan Dixon were murdered in September 1985 at the park on the White River and south of Ball State University.

"Early on, police focused on a family member of one of the teens as a primary suspect," Roysdon said in a press release. "The investigation even ruled out fantastic scenarios, including a theory that the killer was a Dungeons & Dragons devotee. The case grew cold. Only decades later did a dogged police investigator narrow the scope to a suspect whose name has never been publicly revealed until now."

Roysdon and Walker talked to detectives, friends, and family for the book.

The two have also authored two other true crime books, "Wicked Muncie" and "Muncie Murder & Mayhem."

“The Westside Park Murders: Muncie’s Most Notorious Cold Case,” publishes on Monday is available from booksellers, the publisher, or Amazon. In Muncie, you can buy the book at the Orchard Shop at Minnetrista, the Mailroom, Aw Yeah Comics, Books-a-Million, and Muncie Map Co.
