Four dessert cafes and shops to enjoy in Indianapolis

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS – The calendar is full of wacky holidays from Wear Something Gaudy Day to National Hot Dog Day, but Sept. 4 is officially Eat an Extra Dessert Day.

Seems very convenient that the holiday comes the day before Labor Day – an extra excuse to indulge in some of your favorite desserts.

We’ve got your top four places to grab some of the city’s best desserts.

Frona Mae Dessert Café

38 E. Washington St.

Indianapolis, IN 46204

Downtown Indy became a little sweeter once Frona Mae Dessert Café opened their doors in 2015. The café specializes in house-made sweet treats. You can carry out to sit in to enjoy cakes, pies, cookies, tarts, crepes, puffs, brownies and more. They also offer sandwiches, soups, salads, beer and wine.

Cake Bake Shop

6515 Carrollton Ave.

Indianapolis, IN 46220

This elegant and petite shop in Broad Ripple quickly became a crowd favorite after it opened in 2010. The shop has even been featured on The Food Network (so you know it’s delicious!). Surprisingly, you’ll find more than desserts. The menu features a variety of soups, salads, wines, teas and coffees. If you’re there for one purpose, and one purpose only (dessert), you’ll be happy to see pie, cheesecake and cake by the slice, along with cookies and pastries.

Sub Zero Ice Cream & Yogurt

427 Massachusetts Ave.

Indianapolis, IN 46204

Want to customize your dessert? Sub Zero is the place to go. Sub Zero Ice Cream creates your ice cream using liquid nitrogen right in front of you. You may add any toppings you like. Some of the popular ones include brownie, cheesecake bits and cookie dough. So just sit back, and watch your creation come to life.

The Gallery Pastry Shop

1101 E. 54th Street

Indianapolis, IN 46220

This European inspired dessert shop in SoBro focuses on plated desserts (yes, you read that right – this is a serious matter). The menu offers items such as French Macarons, Eclairs and filled croissants. You can even grab a mimosa or glass of chocolate wine while you’re there.
