The girls' stepfather told firefighters he woke up to a lot of smoke in the house, and he alerted his wife and the girls to get out.

The two girls jumped from a second-story window, caught by their stepfather below.

The man and woman were taken to the hospital but have since been released.

The 13-year-old is in serious condition with non-life-threatening injuries. The 12-year-old is in good condition.

There were five puppies and one dog in the house. The dog is OK, but two-week-old pit bull puppies died in the fire.

The family said they don't know what could've caused the fire. They've lived there since June.

There were working smoke detectors in the home but they did not go off. Firefighters estimated the damage to the house at $75,000.
