GREENWOOD, Ind. -- A new, $40 million proposed sports and entertainment complex in Greenwood will replace plans to build an iceplex on the other side of the city.
The proposed project would use more than $40 million of private investments, some from Jim and Sean Hallett, the owners of Indy Fuel. The project would be located along I-65, south of County Line Road.
This proposal replaces the planned iceplex in Greenwood, which is good news for the residents who went to committee meetings opposing the idea.

"We had problems, but this is gonna be a disaster," Sharon Hayes said in March.
She believed the iceplex would create traffic issues.
"Money is not everything," Hayes said. "You want your neighborhood to be a neighborhood."

The project would have two major parts -- a sportsplex and a retail/entertainment center.
The sportsplex, funded by the Halletts, would be about 15 acres, with two ice rinks, two sports field that can be two ice rinks and five basketball courts that can be convertible to 10 volleyball courts.
The entertainment center would have a movie theater and 10 outlots. It would take up about 38 acres.
The next step for the project is a proposal at an RDC meeting on June 19.
