CARMEL, Ind. -- Winter in Carmel will never be the same, if you ask Mayor Jim Brainard.
The city is gearing up for the winter season, and that includes a new outdoor market and ice skating rink.
The market will be called Christkindlmarkt. Pronounced CRIST (like fist)-KINDL (like spindle)-MARKET, it is a German Christmas market and festival.
In German, Christkindlmarkt means "Christ child market."
Beginning Monday, crews were working at Carmel's Center Green, getting the area ready for the rink and dozens of "huts" where authentic German goods will be sold, such as food, gifts and decorations.
The market is scheduled to open Saturday, Nov. 18 and will run through Christmas Eve. The ice rink will be available through March 11.
