Crash to close US 40 in Hancock County for hours

HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. -- Part of a major highway in Hancock County, Indiana is shut down due to a crash and will be closed until Tuesday evening. 

According to the Hancock County Sheriff's Department, a vehicle crashed into a utility pole near US 40 and 400 W. at about 11 a.m. The vehicle knocked down one utility pole but actually brought down three. The crash knocked out power in the area.

The driver was hospitalized in an unknown condition, but he will be OK.

US 40 will be closed until about 6 p.m. between 400 W. and 200 W. in Hancock County.

Emergency officials in the area suggest using US 52 or I-70 while the cleanup is ongoing.
