Avon Library accepting food donations to pay off overdue fines

Posted

AVON, Ind. -- Have an overdue book at the Avon-Washington Township Library? If you do, this is the month to wipe the slate clean and help the community.

For nearly a decade, the library has traded food for fines during the month of November.

Throughout the month, non-perishable food items such as canned fruits and vegetables, cereals and macaroni will be collected at the circulation desk.

According to Catherine Myers of the Avon Library, food donations can't be accepted for fines over $25 or damaged materials.

All the collected items will be delivered to Avon's food pantry, the Mary Lee Maier Food Pantry at Maple Elementary School.

The pantry is open every Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Anyone with a student in Avon schools is welcome to visit the food pantry.
