Avon Marching Black and Gold returns from regionals with a podium finish, heading to national event

HENDRICKS COUNTY, Ind. -- Avon High School’s marching band returned to central Indiana this week following a trip to San Antonio, Texas and a podium finish at a regional competition.

The Avon Marching Black and Gold consists of students in grades nine through twelve. They rehearse four to five days a week.

The Indiana team finished fourth at the Bands of America Super Regionals in San Antonio.  The AMB&G competed at the BOA Canton, Dayton, Indianapolis, and San Antonio Regionals this year.

“Each year a handful of incredible Texas High School Bands travel to Indianapolis to compete in the Bands of America Grand National Championship. It is quite rare for a band from up north to travel to Texas for the Bands of America San Antonio Super Regional,” says Cathy Klemmensen, Avon High School’s Performing Arts Secretary.  “Carmel High School traveled to Texas in 2002 and Avon was proud to represent the Hoosier State this fall. “

Klemmensen says the Avon marching band has received hundreds of beautiful messages from people in Texas that attended what is already being referred to as the greatest competition in Bands of America history.   As one Texas band parent wrote, "I hope Avon goes home feeling like they left a piece of their hearts in Texas, because they definitely took a piece of ours with them when they left. BOA San Antonio will never be quite the same again."

The Avon Black and Gold will compete in Bands of America Grand Nationals from November 9-11 at Lucas Oil Stadium. Click here to follow their journey
