Indianapolis City-County Councilors proposing pay increase

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis City-County Councilors could be getting a pay raise.

A new proposal, sponsored by councilors Zach Adamson (D) and Monroe Gray Jr. (D), would increase the councilors' salaries from $11,400 to $25,000.

The councilors haven't received a pay raise from the Indianapolis code since 2002, but their current salary is tied to the mayor's salary.

Right now, councilors receive pay equal to 12 percent of the mayor's salary, which is $95,000.

Councilors also receive a bonus of $112 per regular council meeting attended, for a maximum of 21 meetings in a year, for a possible bonus of $2,352.

The proposal will be introduced at Monday night's meeting. No vote will be taken yet.
