INDIANAPOLIS — It's Giving Tuesday, and organizations across Indianapolis have ways you can give back. Whether it's donating your time or money, there are a lot of ways you can help your community today.

Gleaners Food Bank wants to provide the gift of food for a child in need.

The organization's goal is to raise enough money to provide 7,500 BackSacks to children in central Indiana.

A BackSack is a supply of healthy food, given to children on Friday. The food is good for the whole weekend. They contain nine items that are enough for seven small meals.

Gleaners says one in five Hoosier children do not have enough to eat to be healthy. The BackSacks are to make sure the children can come to school on Monday able to focus and learn. The BackSacks contain shelf-stable food that doesn't need refrigerated. The food is nutritious and in kid-friendly containers, so it's easy for them to open.

An example BackSack could contain two cans of spaghetti or ravioli, a pudding cup, granola bars, fruit snacks, and bagged cereal.

The Gleaners BackSacks will serve more than 7,500 children in 240 schools in 21 Indiana counties.

If you want to give to Gleaners to help the organization reach its goal, the best way to donate is on Facebook. On Tuesday, Facebook and PayPal will match the donations. For more information on donating to Gleaners, click here.
