BEECH GROVE, Ind. -- A 2-year-old girl was killed Wednesday morning in a fire in Beech Grove, Indiana.

The fire started at about 10 a.m., on N. 6th Avenue, Indianapolis Fire Department spokesperson Rita Reith said.

The girl's father, age 35, and another child, age 3, were also injured in the fire. They are in serious condition.

"The father was desperately trying to get the little girl to come with him, and she would not or could not," Reith said. "The fire quickly grew out of control and he had to get out. He was able to make it out with the 3-year-old."

The 2-year-old has been identified as Brianna Chislom.

Most of the damage was contained to the back of the building. The building used to be a house, but has been converted into apartment, Reith said.
