INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis' bikeshare program, currently centered downtown, will expand north to the Broad Ripple neighborhood in 2019.
Pacers Bikeshare will add about 250 more bikes and 25 more bike share stations next year, funded by a federal grant.
The program, part of the Indianapolis Cultural Trail, will add stations downtown, in near-downtown neighborhoods, and along the Monon Trail.
The expansion goals also include growing the EveryBody Rides program. The program provides subsidized bikeshare passes, bicycle education, and group rides for residents in low income situations.
The expansion is funded by a grant of Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality, totaling nearly $1 million.
“Since 2014, downtown residents and visitors alike have enjoyed the transportation and connectivity benefits provided by the Pacers Bikeshare program, which is why we’re excited to bring this network of bikes into our neighborhoods,” Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett said in a statement. “At no additional cost to our taxpayers, we are doubling the amount of bikes and stations offered, and will be sure they land in the right places thanks to public input received in the coming weeks.”
The exact spots of the new stations are still to be determined. To stay updated on the locations, sign up for the "Trail Talk" newsletters here.
