INDIANAPOLIS -- The east side of downtown Indianapolis continues to bring new business to what was an isolated area just a few years ago. Monday was the grand opening of City Nail Bar, a standalone nail salon located on the base of the Artistry apartment building on New Jersey Street.
"The foot traffic here is the number one reason we picked this location," says Jody Alexander, owner of City Nail Bar. "I think this area, the east side of Indianapolis, is really getting cleaned up. "
Alexander says the east side of the circle location was a big draw for where to start her business because of the emerging bustle of other new businesses. This is as Whole Foods, OrangeTheory Fitness, and a Starbucks opened in the area just within the last few months. Public Greens restaurant is under construction across the street as well.
City Nail Bar brings a nail care service to an area that seemed spare of something like that for the nearly 30,000 downtown dwellers and downtown employees.
The idea came about for Alexander, about two years ago. After working in the finance industry for 24 years, Alexander says she felt there wasn't a convenient place for her to spruce up her nails in the immediate downtown area.
“Being in sales I noticed that there wasn’t a nail salon, that was really important to me because when you are meeting with clients you want to be polished. It would take me an hour out of my day on top of my service to find a nail salon," Alexander said. "It was always something in the back of my mind that it was something that downtown needed. And I started doing research about two years ago and that is when I realized it was going to work, that it would be sustainable and successful."
The salon offers a trendy and modern vibe. The owner is working through the process of getting a liquor license approved to provide clients the option of a drink while getting their treatment.
"I am building a team of experienced and talented nail technicians," says Alexander. "I am very particular with my nails myself and I made sure every technician shares the same passion."
Alexander also plans to bring events to City Nail Bar with clothing boutiques visiting on Friday and Saturday, makeup artists available for makeovers, and a braid bar with hairstylists.
City Nail Bar is open Monday through Saturday:
- Monday - Wednesday 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.
- Thursday 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.
- Friday - Saturday 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
