MARION COUNTY — The Indianapolis City-County Council on Monday approved $385,000 in additional funding for the Marion County Coroner's Office.
According to the proposal, the money will be used "to address contractual costs associated with an increased number of death investigations."
Marion County has seen a record number of homicides in 2021.
The county has also experienced more than 2,200 deaths since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
