INDIANAPOLIS — The city of Indianapolis will close part of Monument Circle to any encampments or storage in about two weeks.

The IMPD Homeless Unit will provide temporary or permanent housing to anybody who has been camping in the sidewalk of the outer loop of Monument Circle. The Department of Public Works will provide storage bins and store items for up to 60 days.

After noon on Jan. 12, any unaccompanied items found may be removed and thrown away. The 15 days’ notice is in compliance with city ordinance.

“Encampments and storage of personal property in this area are blocking pedestrian traffic and causing disruption to nearby businesses,” a notice from the city states.

Anybody needing connection to housing resources should contact the IMPD Homeless Unit at 317-327-5362 or any of the following organizations:

  • Horizon House – 317-423-8909, ext. 377
  • Wheeler Mission – 317-686-6239
  • Assessment & Intervention Center – 317-327-8734
