INDIANAPOLIS – Brandon Basham’s neighbors have filed complaints on his Irvington home for years because of everything he had in his yard.
After a story aired Tuesday on RTV6, community members came together to help an Indianapolis veteran clean up his backyard.

“I've told him I would help since I moved in. Now I have an opportunity to make good on that promise,” Basham’s neighbor, Audrey Smith said.
Basham had tires, two cars, and overgrown trees all over his backyard. He says part of the reason his yard got so cluttered was because he was trying to deter thieves and has been working around the clock after a custody battle.
“I don’t think it’s fair for me to sit over there and complain if I am not willing to do my hands dirty, so here I am,” Smith said.

Steve Weidner, the founder of Lifescape Design, saw the story on RTV6 and wanted to pay it forward.
“It’s a mess, but the best part is helping Brandon get himself back on track, take pride in his property and hopefully be catalysts for the community as well,” Weidner said.
Basham said he’s overwhelmed with emotion because of the support from the community.
“This kind of outreach brings hope to the community, brings hope to myself,” Basham said.
