INDIANAPOLIS -- Nearly two months after Roncalli High School suspended its guidance counselor over her same-sex marriage, the school has a job listing for the same position.
Shelly Fitzgerald was put on leave on Aug. 13, after somebody found her marriage certificate from Hancock County and gave it to two school officials.
She was given three options:
- Resign
- Dissolve her marriage
- Wait it out through the rest of the year, but the school wouldn't renew her contract
Fitzgerald said she has no intention of divorcing, quitting or, "not telling anyone why I have to leave the job I've loved so much."
In an email, Principal Chuck Weisenbach said the job posting is to ensure "adequate staffing for our students, families and guidance department while Roncalli and Ms. Fitzgerald continue to seek a path forward."
