Dozens of vehicles broken into in hotel parking lot on Indianapolis' south side

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS – More than two dozen vehicles in a hotel parking lot were broken into on the city’s south side Wednesday night.

Jeff Hirtz, from St. Louis, said he woke up to find his truck’s window had been smashed in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn Express at US 31 and I-465.

He said pocket change was stolen but he will need money to repair his window.

“It’s pretty frustrating,” said Hirtz. “I don't know what the deal is. I don't know if they were looking at out of state trucks, thinking we might have stuff, I'm not sure.”

Another person visiting from Florida had their wallet stolen from another parking lot nearby.

Mike Sullivan, from Milwaukee, said he learned about the break-ins from hotel staff.

“Unfortunately when we woke up someone in the hotel had told us there were a bunch of break-ins and we came out and my window was smashed,” said Sullivan.

Indianapolis and Beech Grove police said they aren’t sure if the same person broke into vehicles in both parking lots.

Police said if you find your car was broken into, call IMPD’s non-emergency line at (317) 327-3811.
