INDIANAPOLIS — The Drunkstick Dash, an Indianapolis tradition by Wheeler Mission, is moving to a virtual-only event this year due to the rising COVID-19 numbers.

The decision comes after Wheeler Mission talked with the Marion County Public Health Department. All registered participants will automatically be transferred to the virtual race.

"While we know this may come as a disappointment for many, we know everyone will agree the erring on the side of extreme caution is the right thing to do," Steve Karr, executive vice president of advancement for Wheeler Mission said in an email.

The race was started 18 years ago to help raise awareness and funds for services to help those experiencing homelessness.

Kerr says this year's event is more critical this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s more critical this year to have this event because it does raise critical funds for those experiencing homelessness," Kerr told WRTV. "And our numbers, we’re seeing high numbers already early in the season.”
