INDIANAPOLIS -- More than a dozen drivers were forced to the side of I-70 early Thursday morning after a particularly violent pothole damaged their vehicles.

Thirteen motorists were stalled because of a pothole in the eastbound lanes of I-70 at about 1:30 a.m. The pothole (or potholes) was just past the North Split.

"I thought it blew out two tires," William Wise said."There's a big hole in the middle of the road. ... They're brand-new tires and they just blew right out."

Lyndon Haas of Atlanta was coming from the airport when he hit the pothole.

"It was like a bomb," he said. "It immediately blew out the tire. It was such a sharp, deep hole."

Haas is in town for business on his way to Ohio, and didn't have a positive opinion of Indianapolis after sitting stranded on the side of the road at 2 a.m. He said he travels for business frequently, and Indianapolis only rivals Detroit for bad potholes.

"Not as deep as that one," he added. "Not like I hit."

The specific pothole that the drivers hit has since been repaired.
