INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis man has spent every September 11 since 2001 honoring the victims of the 9-11 terror attacks in his own, public way.
For 17 years, James Clark has stood on that bridge over I-465 holding an American flag for all drivers to see.
“Just to see this flag whipping in the wind, it reminds us of a thousand things about a thousand things,” said Clark.

Clark spends 12 hours of his day every September 11 waving that 50-pound flag and remembering the day that America changed. It’s a challenge he says is nothing compared to what the men and women faced the day those twin towers fell.
“To honor those 2,977 people who, in those final moments, were displaying love and tenderness and strength,” said Clark. “How terrifying that must have been, and total strangers were looking out for each other.

Clark says he does it for the victims, the first responders and the families that still grieve for the loved ones they lost.
“I think today is a somber day, not one of celebration, but remembrance for real-life American heroes,” said Clark.
And next year, he plans to be back out there again.
