INDIANAPOLIS -- A man was killed in a crash on I-465 early Thursday morning.

The crash happened shortly before 2 a.m., in the westbound lanes of I-465, near the 1.7 mile marker.

The 911 callers told dispatchers that a vehicle had hit a guardrail, crossed through a median, then landed in the ditch on the other side of the interstate.

The driver, 37-year-old Dennis Morford Jr., was found near his car. He was having trouble breathing, but was able to communicate with the officers. While waiting on medics to arrive, Morford's condition continued to get worse, according to a release from Indiana State Police.

He went into cardiac arrest at the scene and died at the hospital.

Officials are still trying to determine if Morford died from injuries in the crash, or if he suffered a medical issue while driving.
