INDIANAPOLIS – A person was shot and killed Sunday morning on Indy’s east side by a man who told police it was an act of self-defense during an attempted robbery.

Around 3:30 a.m., officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department found an unresponsive man shot in the 3000 block of Bavarian West Drive.

Medical personnel were not able to revive him and he was pronounced dead.

Police took into custody a male on scene, who admitted his involvement in the shooting and later determined an arrest was not warranted due to the self-defense claim.

The man’s identity was not released by police as the investigation is still ongoing and officers said they will treat his identity as a witness.

Those with information on the case should call Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS.
