Monument Circle gets $7.6M grant for lighting, sound system upgrade for concerts

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS — Monument Circle isn't a place you'd normally think of for a concert, but it could be soon, as the area was recently awarded a multimillion-dollar grant for the "Shining a Light on Indianapolis" project.

The grant from Lilly Endowment was for $7.6 million and was awarded to Downtown Indy and the Indiana War Memorials Foundation.

The upgrades will pay for installing lighting, projection capabilities, a new sound system and flexible staging.

The project will allow for light shows synchronized with Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and special patriotic events to honor Indiana history, according to Downtown Indy.
