INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana State Police have identified a man who was killed Friday morning in a crash on I-465, on Indianapolis’ southwest side.

The crash happened at about 10 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-465 near Kentucky Avenue, but the incident actually started off the interstate, Indiana State Police Sgt. John Perrine said.

A 2001 Chevy Cavalier was heading eastbound on Mooresville Road when the street came to a dead end. State police say the Cavalier sped through the end of the road, struck a guardrail and a line of trees before going airborne and landing on eastbound lanes of I-465.

The vehicle struck a semi, killing the car's driver. The semi driver was not hurt.

Larry Doty, 65, of Indianapolis, was identified Saturday as the driver. Still no word on why Doty continued driving through the dead end road.

The eastbound lanes of I-465 were closed in the area until about 1 p.m.
