INDIANAPOLIS -- Our long local nightmare is finally over.
The intersection of Pennsylvania and Ohio streets re-opened Friday around 7 p.m. after a sinkhole shut down the area on July 4.
Crews had been working 24 hours per day to get the sinkhole fixed and the intersection re-opened, according to Citizens Energy Group.
“Citizens greatly appreciates the patience commuters have shown while we completed this very complicated repair project," said Jeffrey Harrison, President & CEO of Citizens Energy Group. "We also appreciate the cooperation of the other utilities as we have made the repairs. To help avoid sewer failures such as the one that occurred downtown, we are investing up to $20 million to reline and replace about 15 miles of aging sewers each year."
The closure created more traffic issues downtown, which is also dealing with back-ups caused by the I-65 bridge project.
