Posted

SPEEDWAY, Ind. --  A group of people in Speedway is working to honor the life of a woman who lost her battle with cancer by helping others that are currently battling the disease.

Tanya Isaac died on in the early morning hours of March 31, 2016 at the age of 41.

Tanya’s friends and family formed the Tanya Isaac Foundation in October 2016, and so far, they’ve raised more than $13,000.

“During her treatments her husband became her caregiver and they had little to zero income,” said Michelle Lidy, president of the foundation’s board of directors. “Their friends, family, neighbors and complete strangers in town helped shuttle their kids to sports games, brought groceries, paid utility bills etc.  The town wrapped their arms around the family so they could focus on doctor visits and getting better.”

Tanya was an administrative assistant at Speedway schools.

“I was able to talk to Tanya about my idea to form a foundation to keep this effort going in her honor and it would be her way of paying it forward,” said Lidy.

Lidy saidthey established the foundationto help cancer patients in Speedway navigate through the aid and assistance available to them.

You can apply for help online, and if you qualify, the foundation will connect you with organizations or provide a grant to help you address your needs.
