INDIANAPOLIS -- The Circle City has been on its fair share of "best of" lists, but a recent study says it's actually one of the worst cities in the United States to live in.
Indianapolis was ranked the No. 39 worst city to live in by a 247wallst.com list.
There are two primary reasons for this ranking.
In 2015, Indy had 1,288 violent crimes per 100,000 residents, for more than the national rate of 373 incidents per 100,000 people. 2015 was also the deadliest year in the city's history with 144 homicides.

The second reason for the poor rating in the study is the city's poverty rate. Indy's unemployment rate is 3.2 percent, but about 20 percent of the city lives in poverty. This is much higher than the state's overall poverty rate of 15.2 percent in 2015.
