BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Wednesday begins yet another year for Indiana University, as 5,000 new students are expected to move into residence halls beginning at 8 a.m.
Here's what you need to know about the day:
Traffic into Bloomington:
If you're heading to Bloomington from the north via State Road 37, it's important to note the road is under construction between Martinsville and Bloomington, as part of the I-69 project.

RTV6 Traffic Reporter Lauren Casey has two possible detours to take:
- Go south on I-65 to Columbus, then west on State Road 46 to Bloomington
- Go south on State Road 37 to Martinsville (before the construction), then over to State Road 67, then to US 231 to get to State Road 46 through Spencer.

Traffic near campus:
Officials on campus are making a few changes to help move-in day go as smoothly as possible for everybody involved. But, if you're used to traffic a certain way, you should double-check your route to make sure it's not affected.
The expected changes are:
- Sunrise Avenue: one way south from 10th Street to Seventh Street
- The Eigenmann Hall circle drive: one way from Union Street to 10th Street
- Rose Avenue: one way north from Third Street to Seventh Street
- Jones Avenue: one way east from Jordan Avenue to Rose Avenue
- Woodlawn Avenue: one way south from 10th Street to Ninth Street
- Ninth Street: one way west from Woodlawn Avenue to Park Avenue
- Park Avenue: one way north from Ninth Street to 10th Street
Weather:

Welcome Week:
The opening of residence halls also means the annual Welcome Week traditions begin, such as:
- Freshmen Induction Ceremonies
- Culturefest: Music, activities, food and more
- Traditions and Spirit of IU: Pep rally and prize giveaway
- Welcome Week Block Party, Concert and Carnival

There will be 7,683 new students in the class of 2020 with an incoming GPA of 3.79.
The students come from all 91 counties in Indiana and 41 states.
IU is welcoming back a total of over 43,000 students.
