LAWRENCE, Ind. – The closing of several grocery stores in parts of Lawrence and Indy’s east side have caused neighbors to come up with their own solution to food deserts – a community garden.
Lawrence Community Gardens sits in the 9200 block of E. 46th Street, and volunteer gardeners hope it will produce 800 pounds of food per week in the near future.
The garden was made possible by Monarch Beverage, who provided six acres, although only two are currently in use.
