MADISON COUNTY — Three people were injured, including a 6-year-old who is in critical condition, after a crash on Christmas Eve in Madison County, according to the sheriff's office.

Madison County Sheriff's Office deputies and emergency personnel were called to the crash around 4:15 p.m. on State Road 13 near County Road 1000 South, north of Fortville.

A 34-year-old, of Whitestown, was driving a pickup truck, crossed the center line and struck a car, driven by a 39-year-old, of Pendleton, with two children inside, Operations Commander Michael Warner said in an email.

A 3-year-old was taken to Riley Hospital for Children for observation and the 6-year-old was taken to the hospital in critical condition, Warner said. The driver of the car was taken to Ascension St. Vincent in Indianapolis and is stable. The driver of the pickup truck denied medical treatment.

Deputies don't believe alcohol is a factor in the crash, however, the incident remains under investigation.
