BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged with the attempted murder of his grandmother after an attack Monday in Bloomington, Indiana.
A spokesperson with the Bloomington Police Department said around midnight Monday evening, Life Alert received a notification from an 86-year-old woman who lives in the 800 block of S. Winridge Court. When ambulance crews arrived, they heard yelling and called police.
When police arrived at the house, they found a man standing on the porch covered in blood. He immediately began fighting with the officers when they tried to talk to him. Police then took the man, identified as Zachary Emswiller, into custody.
The woman was lying on her bedroom floor. She had been beaten and was covered in blood.
The woman told police her grandson attacked her and tried to strangle her. She was taken to IU Methodist Hospital.
Emswiller was charged with attempted murder and criminal confinement.
