INDIANAPOLIS -- A man died after crashing a motorcycle while speeding away from police on Indianapolis' northwest side Thursday morning.

The incident began around 1 a.m. when an officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department tried to pull over a motorcycle near 56th Street and Guion Road.

But the motorcycle didn't stop, instead kept driving on 56th Street. An IMPD spokesperson said the officer did not chase the driver or try to pursue him. But another officer spotted him near 56th Street and Kessler Boulevard.

The motorcyclist was speeding at about 100 mph when he lost control of the bike on a curve.

The crash left the bike split in half. When medics got to the scene, they thought the driver was dead, but they were able to get life back. The driver eventually died at the hospital. He has not been identified.

The police spokesperson said the driver had warrants for his arrest, which could've been why he didn't stop.
