MADISON COUNTY — An investigation is underway after a man was found dead in a pond Thursday evening in Madison County, according to the sheriff's office.

Madison County Sheriff's Office deputies and emergency personnel found the man around 6 p.m.in the 8200 block of West 1100 North after residents nearby saw something in the pond, Madison County Sheriff Scott Mellinger said. The private pond is located just outside the Elwood city limit.

The Madison County Coroner's Office has identified the man as Terry Frye, 65, of Elwood. Preliminary autopsy results show he suffered a massive heart attack, but his official cause and manner of death are still under investigation.

Detectives believe he was in the pond for two or three days before residents realized it was a body and called deputies.

Foul play is not believed to be involved in the incident, Mellinger said.

Anyone with information or tips about the incident is asked to call Madison County dispatchers at 765-642-0221.
