CARROLL COUNTY — A man was injured Saturday evening after being thrown from an off-road vehicle during a crash southwest of Bringhurst.

Indiana Conservation Officers and emergency personnel were called around 5:15 p.m. to the 5000 block of South 500 West on the report of an off-road vehicle crash, according to a press release from Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

When they arrived, they found a Charles Beard, 73, of Rossville who was thrown from his off-road vehicle and unconscious in the roadway, according to the release. He attempted to pass another vehicle when the tires of his off-road vehicle left the roadway and he was unable to gain control again before he struck a utility pole.

Beard was later taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette, according to the release. His condition is unknown at this time.

Investigators say Beard was not wearing a helmet, according to the release. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
