INDIANAPOLIS — The 14-year-old boy accused of shooting and killing a Dollar General customer during a robbery last week had his first court appearance Wednesday afternoon.

The teenager is accused of killing 37-year-old Gregory Raley on Dec. 10., according to a probable cause document.

In the court filing, an officer with the Cumberland Police Department stated they saw the suspect come out of the store and extend his arm in Raley’s direction. The officer then heard a single gunshot. The suspect was found with a .38 caliber handgun, cash and rolls of coins, according to court documents.

The teen is charged with murder and robbery resulting in serious bodily injury. No admission or denial was entered during the hearing.

“This is a sad case,” Loren Comstock, defense attorney, said.

The suspect was quiet during the hearing, except for the occasional “Yes, sir” when the judge asked him if he understood the charges.

The case is set for another hearing in juvenile court next month.
