INDIANAPOLIS -- Republicans have their candidates for state school superintendent and Attorney General.
Jennifer McCormick, the superintendent of Yorktown Community Schools, easily defeated anti-Common Core activist Dawn Wooten on the first ballot of voting by delegates at the Indiana Republican Party Convention. The vote was nearly a two-to-one margin - 1,030 to 574.
Wooten had tried to win over Republican delegates by pointing out that McCormick had a history of voting in Democratic primaries, but that did not deter most rank-and-file delegates from backing McCormick as they attempt to take back an office they lost four years ago.

It took three ballots to determine the nominee for Attorney General, as four candidates sought the position. In the end, the nod went to Elkhart County Prosecutor Curtis Hill, who received 60% of the vote on the final ballot to 40% for former Attorney General Steve Carter. Eliminated earlier were Logansport state Senator Randy Head and Abby Kuzma, a deputy to current Attorney General Greg Zoeller.
Hill will face Democratic nominee Lorenzo Arredondo in November.

Zoeller did not seek re-election, instead running for Congress in the 9th District. He and three other candidates lost that race to Trey Hollingsworth in May.
