BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Dozens of pet refugees just landed in Bloomington, Indiana, escaping the flood waters of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Six dogs and 18 cats are staying at the Bloomington Animal Care and Control shelter. They landed over the weekend, as part of a partnership with the United States Humance Society.
"Lots of people have been calling and checking in," said Emily Herr of Bloomington Animal Care and Control. "There are lots of concerned folks out there wanting to know they're OK."
The animals were already in shelters in Florida and were moved once other animals were displaced by Hurricane Irma.
Animals more than 5 years old are $55, while animals under 5 years old cost $75. And you could be making room for more refugee animals in need.
