BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University Bloomington has been named one of the country's best for LGBTQ friendliness.

In a list released by Campus Pride Index, IU made the top 25 with five out of five possible stars for being LGBTQ-friendly.

The colleges were judged on the following:

  • LGBTQ Policy Inclusion
  • LGBTQ Support & Institutional Commitment
  • LGBTQ Student Life
  • LGBTQ Academic Life
  • LGBTQ Campus Safety
  • LGBTQ Housing & Residence Life
  • LGBTQ Counseling & Health
  • LGBTQ Recruitment & Retention

IU lost a few marks for not participating in LGBTQ admission fairs and not giving students the option to self-identify sexual orientation on an admission application.

IU ranks No. 1 among Indiana colleges judged by the website. IUPUI earned 4.5 stars, Purdue earned four stars, and Franklin College and Manchester University both earned 2.5 stars.
