LAFAYETTE — A motorcyclist was killed Friday evening in a three-vehicle crash in Lafayette, police say.
Lafayette Police Department officers and emergency personnel were called around 7:15 p.m. to the area of Teal Road and Summerfield Drive on the report of a three-vehicle crash, LPD Lt. Matt Gard said in a press release.
A 16-year-old was turning left onto Summerfield Drive from Teal Road and crashed into a motorcycle, Gard said. Another car, driven by a 62-year-old, was stopped on Summerfield Drive and was struck during the crash.
The motorcyclist later died, Gard said. Their identity has not been released.
Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows more than 40 percent of the two-vehicle crashes involving a motorcycle in 2016 were due to other vehicles turning left.
Investigators say they do not believe drugs or alcohol are factors in the crash.
