INDIANAPOLIS — A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries in a crash Thursday night on Interstate 465 on the east side of Indianapolis.

Indiana State Police troopers were called around to a crash around 9 p.m. on I-465 northbound near the Interstate 70 ramp, ISP Sgt. John Perrine said. A secondary crash involving a semi-truck occurred in the traffic back up due to the first crash.

The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries when they were possibly traveling at a high rate of speed, tried to change lanes, lost control, and were struck by a car, Perrine said. They were wearing a helmet. When medical crews took them to the hospital, they were alert and conscious.

The driver of a car involved in the secondary crash was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Perrine said.

The area will be closed while a crash resconstruction team is investigating, Perrine said.

I-465 NB is closed at I-70 on the east side for a serious crash. A secondary crash with injuries occurred in the back up. Crash reconstruction team is on scene. Closure expected to last one hour
