INDIANAPOLIS — An off-duty Indiana State Police detective was critically injured in a motorcycle crash Saturday morning in Indianapolis.
Indiana State Police troopers and emergency personnel were called around 8:30 a.m. to Interstate 465, just south of Interstate 69, on the report of a crash, ISP Sgt. John Perrine said in a press release. When they arrived, they found Detective Phillip (Andy) Byers, 49, lying on the interstate. He is a 24 year veteran.

He was wearing his helmet at the of the crash and was riding his personally owned motorcycle, Perrine said.
Byers is a detective with the ISP Pendleton District.
Intoxication is not believed to be a factor in the crash, Perrine said. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
